In the summer months wave heights range from 0.3 to 1 meter. In the late fall and winter waves are as high as 1.5 meters. Between January to March, waves are as large as 2 meters. Each February during Carnival, Montañita hosts an international surfing competition.
Tikilimbo Surf Hostel is not only one of the first hotels to have been built in Montañita, but it is also the favourite place to stay for the majority of travellers visiting the city.
